ANDESIGN 1st Place Winners in Eames Design Remix
We are proud to announce that ANDESIGN has placed first in Adobe’s Create Now Remix contest! The contest, hosted on Behance, welcomed designers to contribute a unique design in celebration of Charles Eames’ 106th birthday. The Challenge: take an icon of mid century modern design somewhere completely new.
The competition couldn’t have happen at a better time. Andrew had just returned from a road trip to Texas, where he picked up 2 fiberglass Eames chair shells he spotted peaking out of a dumpster. “So like any responsible designer, I immediately pulled over blocking traffic with my truck and trailer and rescued them.” explained Andrew, ” they were rough but beautiful! Our plan was to initially restore them for our DIY Guy section of our blog but modifying them for the contest was a great fit.”
We had a lot of fun putting our own personal spin on the Eames molded plastic armchair in honor of one of the greatest creators of our time. It was important to us that we didn’t take away from the structure and form of the original design. We had been working on a few concepts and trying out the nest styling idea, made famous on the Beijing Olympic stadium. We cut out triangular shapes from the plastic, using both positive and negative space in creating a unique and dynamic aesthetic. We have tried it on some soft good as well as some housewares and found that it works very well on organic shaped forms. Check out the video below for the deconstructing and reworking the chairs in the 2000 sq foot ANDESIGN workshop.
We are elated for the arrival of our very own Eames molded plastic armchair, limited edition Eames Foundation Print and membership to Creative Cloud courtesy of the Adobe Acrobat team.
