Artists & Fleas
Have you heard of Artists & Fleas? No, not those fleas – like a flea market for artists. My friend, who is a big fan of the event, kept going on and on about how cool it was and that I had to go check it out. So, of course I went and got to see for myself what this whole Artists & Fleas was all about. While I was a little wary walking into this random market, in the middle of nowhere, I was immediately hooked and my doubts quickly disappeared – I love Artists & Fleas!
Held in a former truck service station in downtown LA’s Arts District, Artists & Fleas is a successful mash-up of art and craft show, fair and flea market. There are literally booths upon booths of eclectic art, design and fashion. From skincare, plants and jewelry to clothes and candles, Artist & Fleas has something for everyone.
There were so many innovative plant and home décor booths, I wish I was better at taking care of plants. Unfortunately, I didn’t buy any plants for fear of killing such a pretty display; however, I encourage any plant lovers to check out the plant art at Artists & Fleas.
I absolutely loved these soy wax candles by RX Candles, so much in fact that I bought two!
Of course like the name suggests, there are a ton of artists at Artists & Fleas. Art N Wordz takes damaged paper, reconditions it and then match the images they create to dictionaries, world atlas, and sheet music pages.
Adina Cohen is a visual artist who creates stop motion characters and animation from her drawings.
This was one of my favorite booths, because it was so different from anything else I saw at Artists & Fleas. Lockjaw Garage builds functional art that re-imagines furniture and accessories.
I’m very much into handcrafted products and was thrilled to see so many booths dedicated to skincare and bath products.
The jewelry booths at Artist & Fleas were all stunning. From the displays to the actual pieces themselves, I wanted it all.
Artists & Fleas takes place every third weekend of the month on Mateo Street in downtown LA. There are food trucks, makers’ workshops and special events, making it a perfect outing for the entire family. The next Artists & Fleas weekend takes place Saturday, Feb. 20, and Sunday, Feb. 21, from 11:oo a.m. to 5:00 p.m. I loved my first trip to Artists & Fleas and can’t wait to go back!
