What is the PANTONE Color of the Year?

A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.

Every year Pantone forecasts the next year’s color!

This foreshadowing tends to have a large impact and influence for the realm of design.

Who made Pantone in charge? Just kidding.

But really, from fashion designers to graphic campaigns for brands will be dictated by the color palette presented by and such.
For the upcoming year, GREENERY PANTONE #15-0343 has decisively been chosen to be the color of choice.

Look out for it more, and let us know if you see it more or less.

Check out how Gucci used the color for statement pieces for their spring 2017 runway debut:

Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flourishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signals consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate.

As displayed in the 10 palettes below, Greenery is paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, metallics and even the enduring presence of PANTONE Color of the Year 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity. These palettes easily cross over fashion, beauty, product and graphic design applications.

So why will we all be attracted to what Pantone quite charmingly describes as “nature’s neutral” colour in 2017? And why this particular shade of 15-0343?

Apparently it is symbolic of a new beginning and it does indeed evoke a sense of fresh shoots of grass or early flower buds. After a year of shock political events, the loss of such hugely important cultural figures from David Bowie to Prince and Zaha Hadid to name just a few, and the escalating refugee crisis, starting afresh in 2017 is a most appealing prospect.
