Must Share: It looks like a book, but it’s furniture
When closed up, the Bookniture is only slightly larger than your average hardcover textbook. When it’s opened, the bookniture turns into a multifunctional piece of furniture which can be used as a footstool extra chair, or table. Measuring at 7 inches wide and 13 inches tall, the Bookniture can be easily packed into a bag for outdoor picnics or on-the-go seating.
Mike Mak, the founder of Bookniture, resides in the densely populated city of Hong Kong. He understands that every inch of living space must be utilized properly. He designed the Bookniture with this particular fact in mind.
He stumbled upon a honeycomb board sample while attending a furniture fair. He did not immediately see the use for such a material, so he placed it in his bookcase. His eureka moment came when he had friends over and realized he did not have enough seats – then the sample caught his attention. Incorporating the honeycomb structure into this design allows the Bookniture to hold more than 300 pounds with ease.
The uses of the Bookniture are only limited by your imagination. Thanks to its durable construction, it can be stacked to create shelves, or a plank can be used to turn it into a table.
Currently, the project has reached its $50,000 goal on Kickstarter, but is only $15,000 away from its strech goal, which will allow them to offer 4 different colors of the felt top. Support their Kickstarter here.
