Transport Systems Catapult releases automated vehicle

Transport Systems Catapult is one of seven Catapult centres established by Innovate UK.
Cell Therapy, Future Cities, and High Value Manufacturing are among the other industries with dedicated centres established by Innovate UK designed to transform the UK’s capabilities for innovation.
Catapult, in short, is awesome and their most recent project is a self driving vehicle!
It’s called the LUTZ Pathfinder.

A prototype was presented to the media at a government launch event in Greenwich.
The Pathfinder can seat two and is specifically designed for pavement and ‘pedestrianized areas’.
They’re being built by RDM Group, an engineering company, and are powered by sensors and navigation technology provided by the University of Oxford’s Mobile Robotics Group.
The self driving cars will begin testing later this year in Milton Keynes in an “urban laboratory.”
This will be the first ever self driving car to be tested in a public area.

Check out Catapult and all the awesome areas of innovation they’re enabling across the United Kingdom.
